About No 7 Castle Hill
No 7 Castle Hill is a historical folk museum located in the city centre of Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth). Built in 1827, it is one of the oldest surviving settler cottages in the city and serves as a window into the 19th-century domestic life of a middle-class English family. Period Furnishings: Rooms are filled with Victorian and Edwardian artifacts, including a vintage dollhouse and lace displays. Traditional Kitchen: The basement features an original wood stove and a deep brick bread oven (bak-oond) built into the foundations. The Original Well: Located in a cobbled courtyard, the hand-pumped well from 1849 is still in working order.
