Nelson Mandela University Nature Reserve

Gqeberha, Eastern CapeThe Nelson Mandela University Nature Reserve is an extraordinary 830-hectare protected environment uniquely integrated into the university's South Campus on an unnamed road in Summerstrand, Gqeberha. Established in 1983, this secure, enclosed sanctuary preserves roughly 48% of the world's remaining highly threatened St Francis Dune Thicket and Dune Fynbos vegetation. Serving as both an outdoor scientific laboratory and a peaceful recreational escape, the reserve provides a rare opportunity to see endemic South African wildlife, diverse bird species, and stunning flora right on a university campus. It is an easy-to-access, scenic destination for hikers, runners, and nature lovers seeking a safe and therapeutic outdoor experience close to the city center.View details →
