South Downs Country Club is a prominent 18-hole golf course located in Mayfield Park, Johannesburg South. Often described as a "city course with a country feel," it is one of the oldest courses in Johannesburg, with a heritage dating back to 1937. The Course: A par-72 parklands-style layout spanning approximately 6,239 metres. It features 18 bent-grass greens and Kikuyu grass fairways. Historical Legacy: The club was originally known as Virginia Park Golf Club; it is famous for being the location where golf legend Gary Player played his first-ever round of golf in 1949.
