About Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit
The Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit is a world-class motorsport facility located in Midrand, Gauteng, featuring a 4.522-kilometre, 16-turn anti-clockwise racetrack renowned for its dramatic elevation changes. Historically famous for hosting 20 Formula 1 South African Grands Prix between 1967 and 1993, the circuit currently holds an FIA Grade 2 certification and functions as a premium venue for corporate experiences, lifestyle exhibitions, and endurance events like the Fun Cup France.
To facilitate the return of top-tier international open-wheel racing, the circuit is undergoing a phased multi-million rand infrastructure overhaul designed by Apex Circuit Design to achieve an FIA Grade 1 safety rating. Backed by a R2.1 billion government hosting-fee guarantee secured in early 2026, these technical upgrades are structurally targeting a potential return to the Formula 1 calendar by the 2028 or 2029 racing seasons.
