The Jan Smuts House Museum, located in Irene, Centurion, offers an immersive glimpse into the life and legacy of one of South Africa’s most prominent 20th-century statesmen. Originally used as a British officers' mess during the Anglo-Boer War, the modest wood-and-iron structure was purchased by Smuts in 1909 and relocated to his farm, where it became his family home for over forty years. Today, the museum is preserved just as it was during his lifetime, showcasing his remarkable personal library of over 4,000 books, period furniture, global gifts, and historic military memorabilia. Beyond the house itself, visitors can explore the tranquil indigenous gardens, hike the scenic trail up Smuts Koppie to the family memorial site, or enjoy a meal at the on-site tea garden.
