About Melrose House Museum

Melrose House Museum is a stately Victorian mansion in Pretoria, famously known as the site where the Peace Treaty of Vereeniging was signed on 31 May 1902, ending the Second Anglo-Boer War. Built in 1886 by businessman George Jesse Heys, it served as the British military headquarters for Lord Roberts and later Lord Kitchener during the war. The Peace Treaty: Visitors can see the original dining room and the massive table where the treaty was signed. rchitecture: The house is a premier example of the transition from Victorian to Edwardian architectural styles, featuring original stained glass, ornate gilded ceilings, and rich fireplaces.
