About Gautrain

The Gautrain is an 80-kilometre mass rapid transit railway system in Gauteng, South Africa, designed to link Johannesburg, Pretoria, Kempton Park, and O. R. Tambo International Airport. Operating at speeds of up to 160 kilometres per hour, the network consists of two main routes serving 10 strategically located stations: the North-South Line running between Hatfield and Johannesburg Park Station, and the East-West Line connecting Sandton to the airport. To provide a seamless regional transit experience, the railway is supported by an integrated network of dedicated Gautrain shuttle buses and high-capacity parkades at nine of its stations. Access to the system is strictly electronic, requiring commuters to use a contactless bank card or a dedicated Gautrain Card, with a variable fare structure that features discounted rates during off-peak hours and integrated pricing benefits for combining train, bus, and parking usage.
