About Paradise Valley
Paradise Valley Nature Reserve, situated at 10 Oxford Road in Pinetown, Durban, is a 100-hectare protected area managed by the eThekwini Municipality that preserves coastal forest and grassland biomes. The reserve features four distinct hiking trails - the Waterfall, Duiker, Bushbuck, and Dormouse trails which lead visitors through dense vegetation to a prominent waterfall on the Umbilo River and the historic ruins of the 1887 Umbilo Waterworks.
Architecturally, the natural landscape sits directly beneath the 50-meter-high Paradise Valley viaduct highway bridge. Amenities on the property include an interpretive center, a braai and picnic area, public restrooms, a children's playground, and secure parking. Visitors should note that there are no tuckshops or food vendors on-site, river water quality concerns make swimming unsafe, and ongoing M13/N3 highway construction occasionally impacts nocturnal access to the surrounding off-ramps. Entry
Fees: As of 2026, admission is R21 for adults and R16 for children under 12. Entrance fee pricing may change over time.
