About Pilanesberg National Park
Pilanesberg National Park is a premier, malaria-free Big Five game reserve situated in South Africa's North West Province, just a 2.5- to 3-hour drive from Johannesburg and Pretoria. It is uniquely set within the crater of an ancient, 1.3-billion-year-old extinct volcano, one of only three alkaline ring complexes in the world. Because the park lies in a transition zone between the arid Kalahari and the lush Lowveld, it hosts a highly diverse overlap of wildlife and bird species.
