About The Big Hole Museum
The Big Hole Museum in Kimberley, is an open-air historical complex centered around the Kimberley Mine, recognized as the largest hand-dug excavation in the world. Active from 1871 to 1914, the mine produced nearly 15 million carats of diamonds from 22.5 million tonnes of excavated earth, and the site now preserves this heritage through a viewing platform, a simulated underground mine shaft, a secure diamond vault, and a reconstructed Victorian-era old town. You can learn more by visiting the Big Hole Museum.
