About Victoria West Museum
The Victoria West Museum features two halls: the B.J. Kempen Hall, which highlights the palaeontology and natural history of the Karoo with treasures such as the 250‑million‑year‑old Atherstonia seeleyi—the oldest and best‑preserved specimen of its kind, notable for its scale‑covered shell instead of a backbone—and a display on the critically endangered riverine rabbit found only in limited parts of South Africa; and the cultural history hall, which showcases the town’s heritage through collections like dolls dating back to 1820.
