About Wildebeest Kuil Rock Art Centre
The Wildebeest Kuil Rock Art Centre, situated approximately 16 kilometres outside of Kimberley in the Northern Cape, is a declared Provincial Heritage Site located on land owned by the indigenous !Xun and Khwe San communities. The site features a sacred hill containing more than 400 ancient Khoe-San rock engravings, or petroglyphs, depicting large mammals like rhinos, elephants, and eland that researchers link to historic rainmaking rituals and shamanistic traditions.
Managed in part by the McGregor Museum, the visitor experience includes an auditory introductory film, an 800-metre woven walkway that loops across the archaeological site to protect the landscape, and a community craft shop showcasing authentic local artwork and traditional crafts.
