About The Wilds - East Wilds

The East Wilds hiking trail is a section of the 16-hectare The Wilds Nature Reserve in Houghton, Johannesburg, connected to the western side by a footbridge over Houghton Drive. The trails on the east side typically follow natural stone paths through indigenous gardens and rocky koppies, offering a slightly more rugged experience with several uphill climbs. Distance & Time: A standard loop covering both the east and west sides is approximately 4.7 km, though shorter out-and-back routes on the east side alone can be around 1.4 km. Most visitors spend about 1–2 hours exploring the area.
