The Big Red Barn Hiking Trail in Olifantsfontein (near Irene, Pretoria) is a popular destination for family-friendly, flat, and mostly shaded forest walks. The trails are non-technical and well-suited for beginners, children, and pet owners. The hiking and trail running paths are separate from the mountain bike (MTB) trails, although they crisscross at certain points. Most of the route winds through a eucalyptus forest, providing roughly 70–95% shade.
