The Bobbejaansrivier Hiking Trail is a spectacular 9 km out-and-back route located in the Limietberg Nature Reserve near Wellington in the Western Cape. The trail follows the Bobbejaans River—a tributary of the Witte River—and culminates in a breathtaking three-tiered waterfall surrounded by deep rock pools. It is widely considered one of the best river and swimming hikes in the region. Distance: ~9 km return (out-and-back).Duration: Approximately 5 to 6 hours, depending on how long you swim. Difficulty: Moderate (6/10). The path is mostly gradual but becomes rocky and steep near the end. Best Time to Visit: October to February (Summer). The trail is often closed in winter due to dangerous river crossings. Permits: Strictly required from CapeNature. You must book online or via their booking office at least 48 hours in advance to receive the security gate access code.
