About Kleinmond Rock Climbing Crag
Kleinmond Rock Climbing Crag is a prominent sport climbing and bouldering destination perched on the hillsides overlooking the Palmiet River and the ocean. The site features roughly 97 established single-pitch sport routes carved into highly compact, coarse sandstone and solid quartzite cliffs. Highly regarded by local climbing communities for its excellent friction, the crag offers a fantastic mix of vertical faces ranging from beginner-friendly (grades 15 to 17) to highly technical expert ascents up to grade 30. Accessible via a scenic 15-to-20 minute uphill approach trail from the main Palmiet bridge parking lot, the location provides diverse sectors like the Upper Lockdown, Zucchini Wall, and River Crag, which offer alternating morning and afternoon shade. It operates continuously 24 hours a day, Monday to Sunday.
