About The Hermanus Cliff Path

The Hermanus Cliff Path is a world-renowned coastal trail in the Western Cape, famous for offering some of the best land-based whale watching globally. This 12-kilometre (approx. 7.5 miles) path stretches from the New Harbour in the west to Piet-se-Bos/Grotto Beach in the east. Difficulty/Time: Easy, mostly level, and well-maintained, taking 3–4.5 hours to walk the full length, though smaller sections are popular. Highlights: Top whale-watching from June to November (best in Sep/Oct) at hotspots like Gearing’s Point, Old Harbour, and Fick’s Pool. The path is part of the Fernkloof Nature Reserve, featuring unique fynbos.
