About Goukamma Bushpig Trail

The Bushpig Trail is a popular 6.5 km circular hiking route located within the Goukamma Nature Reserve on South Africa's Garden Route. It offers a moderate-intensity walk through a mix of coastal fynbos and indigenous milkwood forest, featuring panoramic views of the Goukamma River estuary and the Indian Ocean. Directions: The main entrance is located off the N2 between Sedgefield and Knysna; follow the Buffalo Bay (Buffelsbaai) turn-off. What to Bring: Plenty of water (none on the trail), sunscreen, a hat, and a swimsuit if you'd like to dip in the river or sea afterward. A conservation fee (approx. R50–R60 per adult) is payable at the reserve gate.
