The Brown-Hooded Kingfisher Trail is a popular 5km out-and-back hiking route located near Wilderness in the Western Cape, South Africa. Known for its lush forest canopy and river crossings, it is considered a moderate and family-friendly hike that takes roughly 1.5 to 3 hours to complete. Distance & Duration: The total distance is approximately 5km (2.5km each way), taking about 1–1.5 hours for a steady walk or up to 3 hours if you stop for birdwatching and a picnic. Scenic Highlights: The path meanders along the Duiwe River, featuring several stepping-stone river crossings and ending at a picturesque waterfall and rock pool. Optional Viewpoint: Just before the waterfall, there is a steep detour that leads to a panoramic viewpoint overlooking the indigenous forest canopy.
