About Hood Point Lighthouse
The Hood Point Lighthouse (Afrikaans: Hood Point-vuurtoring), located in East London, South Africa, was first lit on 4 June 1895. Standing 19 metres tall, it features a white, round stone tower topped with a red-painted lantern dome. Prior to its construction, the Castle Point Lighthouse guided ships in the area. Today, Hood Point Lighthouse is situated near the Potters Pass Nature Reserve and the West Bank Golf Course.
