About Great Fish Point Lighthouse
The Great Fish Point Lighthouse, the Eastern Cape’s fifth oldest, celebrated its 126th anniversary on 1 July 2024, coinciding with World Marine Aids to Navigation Day. Located 25 km east of Port Alfred on a ridge 85 metres above sea level, the 9-metre octagonal tower features black-and-white stripes, a red-domed lantern house, and a rotating lens flashing every 10 seconds. One of the few lighthouses still staffed, it is maintained by Martin Peterson, a second-generation lightkeeper who oversees its upkeep and shares its rich history.- Historical landmark
