About Paul Kruger Statue
The Paul Kruger Statue (also known as the Krugerstandbeeld) is a prominent bronze monument located in the center of Church Square, Pretoria. It commemorates Paul Kruger, the former President of the South African Republic (ZAR), and serves as a major, albeit controversial, historical landmark in South Africa. Location: It remains situated in the middle of Church Square, surrounded by historic buildings like the Palace of Justice and the Ou Raadsaal. Design: Sculpted by Anton van Wouw in 1896, the bronze ensemble depicts Kruger in his characteristic formal dress—top hat, presidential sash, and cane—perched on a high plinth.
