About Voortrekker Memorial
The Voortrekker Memorial located at 79 Waterval Road (on the corner of 11th Street) in Newlands, Randburg, is a quiet historical marker commemorating the "Spoor van die Andries Pretorius" (Trail of Andries Pretorius). This specific site marks the location where a wagon, pulled by 40 young women, passed through during the Symbolic Ox Wagon Trek. Visitors to the memorial often note its local historical significance, and some of the stones at the site are reportedly brought from Blood River, a pivotal location in Voortrekker history. The site is situated adjacent to the NG Kerk Waterval, which is considered the oldest Dutch Reformed church building in Johannesburg still used for its original purpose.
