About Battle of Willow Grange
The Battle of Willow Grange (23 November 1899) was a significant engagement during the Second Boer War and marked the southernmost point reached by Boer forces during their invasion of the Colony of Natal. Despite winning the tactical engagement, General Joubert decided to retreat back to the Thukela (Tugela) line following the battle. This withdrawal was prompted by the arrival of British reinforcements under General Buller at Mooi River. During the retreat, Joubert was injured when his horse fell, leading to his eventual replacement by Louis Botha.
