About Maclear Landmark
Maclear's Beacon is a must-visit landmark for anyone exploring Table Mountain in Cape Town. Standing at 1,086 metres (3,563 ft) above sea level, it marks the absolute highest point of the mountain. The Landmark Experience Historical Significance: The 5-metre-high stone cairn was built in 1865 by Sir Thomas Maclear, an Irish-born astronomer, to help measure the Earth's curvature.
