About Paradise Ruins
The Paradise Ruins (also known as Paradijs or Lady Anne Barnard’s Cottage) are the historical remains of an 18th-century VOC (Dutch East India Company) woodcutter's post located deep within Newlands Forest, Cape Town. There is "not much to see" in terms of grand architecture—mostly stone walls and foundations that were excavated in the 1980s. However, legible information placards provide context about the site's history as a military outpost and residence.
