About Rhodes Memorial
The Rhodes Memorial, designed by architect Herbert Baker and completed in 1912, is a grand monument styled after an ancient Greek temple on Devil’s Peak near Table Mountain in Cape Town. It honors Cecil John Rhodes (1853–1902), the English-born mining magnate who founded De Beers, became a powerful politician, and served as prime minister of the British Cape Colony from 1890 to 1896.
