About Afrikaans Taalmonument

The Afrikaans Language Monument (Afrikaanse Taalmonument), located on a hill overlooking Paarl in South Africa’s Western Cape, was officially opened on 10 October 1975 to mark 50 years since Afrikaans was recognized as an official language distinct from Dutch, and also commemorates the centenary of the Genootskap van Regte Afrikaners, the society founded in Paarl that played a key role in fostering Afrikaner identity and pride in their language.
