About Du Preez Family Monument

The Du Preez Family Monument is a memorial situated just outside Paarl in the Western Cape Province of South Africa. It commemorates the arrival of the original Du Preez ancestors, who were part of the French Huguenot group that settled in the Cape Colony in 1688. The monument honors Hercules des Prez and Cecilia d'Athis, who arrived at the Cape with their six children. Today, their male descendants number between 25,000 and 30,000. Historical Site: It is located on a portion of the original family farm, De Soete Inval (also spelled De Zoete Inval), near the Nuwe Eskdale road. Physical Features: The memorial is an obelisk made of granite. It features commemorative plaques that include the names of the early family members and prominent Huguenot signatures.
