The Bloemfontein Eiffel Tower is a \(45\)-metre-high steel replica of the famous Parisian landmark, located in the industrial suburb of Hamilton. Erected in 1968, it stands at a \(1:10\) scale and was originally built by the company National and Overseas Modular Construction (NOMC) as an advertisement and for internal radio communications. Engineering: The structure is anchored by four concrete footings, each weighing \(40\) tons. It is designed to withstand high winds, with a maximum designed sideways deflection of \(125\) mm (\(5\) inches). Lightning: It is fitted with lightning conductors, as it is estimated to be struck approximately \(200\) times per year.
