About Koppies Dam
Koppies Dam is a combined gravity and arch-type dam situated on the Renoster River near the town of Koppies in the northern Free State, South Africa. Established originally in 1911 to supply water for local irrigation and domestic use, the dam is now managed as part of the Koppies Dam Nature Reserve, a 4,300-hectare conservation area. Today, the location serves as a public venue for freshwater angling, windsurfing, and sailing, while providing habitat for game species and over 200 species of birds.
