Originally built in 1922 by unemployed miners using local rock, they have become a premier destination for both fitness enthusiasts and those seeking panoramic views of the city. Hiking Preparation: Many visitors use the steep incline to prepare for major treks like Mount Kilimanjaro or the Otter Trail. Elevation: Climbing the stairs can provide a significant workout, with some users doing 10 or more "loops" to achieve an elevation gain of over 500 meters.
