About Wits End Lake
Wits End Lake is a private, 10-acre dam situated within the Wits End Mountain Resort in Cathkin Park, KwaZulu-Natal, making it one of the largest private bodies of water in the Central Drakensberg region. Located at the foothills of the Drakensberg mountains under the peaks of Champagne Castle and Cathkin Peak, the lake is used primarily for non-motorized boating, canoeing, and catch-and-release fly fishing for stocked rainbow trout, bass, and Natal yellowfish.
The water is surrounded by a network of nature trails traversing indigenous forests and grasslands, which are home to local wildlife such as Cape otters, bushbuck, and various bird species. Access to the lake and its immediate shoreline is primarily open to overnight guests staying at the resort's self-catering chalets and visitors dining at the on-site restaurant.
