About Banyan Tree Botanical Gardens Durban

The Durban Botanic Gardens, often colloquially searched for as the "Banyan Tree Botanical Gardens" due to its famous Walking Tree (Ficus benghalensis), is Africa’s oldest surviving botanical garden. Established in 1849, it is located at 9A John Zikhali Road, Musgrave, Durban. The Banyan "Walking Tree": A majestic Indian fig tree that drops aerial roots which grow into new trunks, allowing it to "walk" across the garden.
