About Durban Bluff Lighthouse
The original Durban Bluff Lighthouse, constructed in 1867 as the first on the East African coast, was an 81-foot iron cone located in KwaZulu-Natal. Designed by Peter Paterson, it was demolished in 1941 for wartime gun emplacements. It was replaced by the modern Cooper Lighthouse (1953) on the Bluff.
