About Port Shepstone Lighthouse
The Port Shepstone Lighthouse is an 8-metre-high, round cast iron tower situated on the southern bank of the Umzimkulu River mouth in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. It is widely recognized for its striking black-and-white checkered pattern, which has earned it the nickname of a "nautical chess piece" challenging the deep ocean waters. Accessibility: The interior of the tower is not open to the public. However, visitors can view it from the outside and explore the surrounding area.
