About Tugela Lighthouse
The Tugela Lighthouse is an operational, 22-meter cylindrical concrete tower located on the north bank of the Tugela River Mouth in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Commissioned in 1972, this automated, non-manned beacon is painted with black and white horizontal bands, serving as a critical navigational aid with a range of 23 sea miles. Location: Tugela Mouth, Dolphin Coast, Zululand, south of Red Hill Nature Reserve. Structure: A 22-meter round white tower with black bands; it replaced an earlier 21-meter aluminum tower. Function: Automated navigation aid (not open to the public).
