About Majuba Boer War Memorial Campsite

The Majuba Boer War Memorial Campsite, also known as the Amajuba Commemorative Farm, is a historical and recreational site situated at the base of Majuba Mountain near Volksrust, South Africa, directly on the battlefield of the final engagement of the First Anglo-Boer War. Managed by the Majuba-Boerevolk Trust, the property functions as both a commemorative space and an outdoor lodging facility, offering grassy camping and caravan stands alongside basic ablution facilities and a youth lodge capable of hosting large school groups. The site features an on-site orientation museum that houses a collection of historical wagons, antique farm implements, and war artifacts, and it serves as the host venue for annual historical re-enactments held every February. Visitors to the campsite can access a steep, rocky hiking trail that ascends to the mountain summit—where historic battle trenches, monument markers, and the spot where British General Sir George Pomeroy Colley was killed are located—or utilize a lower vehicle track leading to a scenic mountain picnic area. Situated just off the N11 highway near the Mpumalanga and KwaZulu-Natal border, the campsite is located within close driving distance of related historical landmarks, including Laing's Nek and O'Neil's Cottage, where the peace treaty ending the war was signed.
