About Danger Point Lighthouse
Danger Point Lighthouse is a historic beacon situated on the rugged tip of the peninsula near Gansbaai in the Western Cape, South Africa. Commissioned on 1 January 1895, it stands as a sentinel over one of the world's most treacherous coastlines, famously known as the site of the HMS Birkenhead shipwreck in 1852. The Tower: Visitors can climb 99 steps to the top for 360-degree panoramic views of Walker Bay and the surrounding fynbos. Birkenhead Memorial: A plaque on the grounds commemorates the victims of the HMS Birkenhead. An arrow on the memorial points to the submerged rock where the ship struck, which is often visible from the shore.
