About Geelbek Bird Lookout

The Geelbek Bird Lookout, located within the West Coast National Park near Langebaan, is one of South Africa's premier birdwatching destinations. It features two well-maintained hides overlooking the southern marshes of the Langebaan Lagoon, offering a chance to see some of the over 250 bird species recorded in the park. Flamingos: Both Greater and Lesser Flamingos are common highlights. Keep an eye out for Black Harriers, African Marsh Harriers, and the occasional African Fish Eagle. Best Timing: Bird activity is heavily dictated by the tides. The best time to visit the Geelbek hides is approximately 3 to 4.5 hours after high tide in Cape Town (Table Bay). As the water recedes, waders move onto the exposed mudflats to feed close to the hides.
