About West Coast Fossil Park
The West Coast Fossil Park, located near Langebaanweg in the Western Cape, is a world-renowned National Heritage Site featuring exceptionally well-preserved fossils from the terminal Miocene and early Pliocene eras, approximately 5.2 million years ago. It is famous for its "in situ" (exactly as they were found) fossil beds uncovered during phosphate mining in the 1960s.
