The Snake Eagle Thinking Path in Matjiesfontein is a 1 536-metre permanent geoglyph and labyrinthine footpath. It is constructed out of local white stones laid directly onto the Great Karoo veld. The Design: A massive earth drawing measuring 170 metres by 57 metres, perfectly visible from the sky and Google Earth. The Path: Consists of one continuous line that weaves into the form of an eagle, leading walkers seamlessly back to their starting point. Symbolism: The heart of the eagle features intertwining shapes that represent air currents, local river flows, and the relationship between predator and prey. The Inspiration: Created to honour a local breeding pair of Black-Chested Snake Eagles resident to the area's skies. The Project: Initiated by artists Anni Snyman and PC Janse van Rensburg.
