About Jacaranda

The Jacaranda shipwreck, a well-known landmark and hiking destination on South Africa’s Wild Coast in the Eastern Cape, was a 2,000-ton Greek coaster that ran aground on September 18, 1971 after strong winds and engine trouble caused it to drag its anchors into the rocks. Remarkably, all 15 crew members, including the captain’s wife, survived the incident, leaving the vessel itself as the only loss.
