About Meisho Maru
The Meisho Maru No. 38, a small Japanese fishing vessel, met its fate on South Africa’s notoriously treacherous coast when a storm drove it aground on November 16, 1982. Though the ship was lost, its proximity to shore allowed all 17 crew members to swim to safety, making the vessel itself the only casualty of the disaster.
