About Kogelberg Nature Reserve
Kogelberg Nature Reserve is a world-renowned, pristine wilderness area. Often celebrated as the absolute heart of the Cape Floral Kingdom, this massive 3,000-hectare reserve is protected by CapeNature and represents South Africa's first designated UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The sanctuary is highly regarded for its exceptional mountain fynbos biodiversity, complex plant species, and deep sandstone ravines. Visitors can explore the primitive landscape via extensive multi-day hiking trails such as the rigorous 24 km Kogelberg Trail or enjoy mountain biking and freshwater swimming in the amber-tinted waters of the Palmiet River valley. The reserve welcome center and day-visitor gate operate Monday to Sunday from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM.
