It is one of the town's most famous landmarks and serves as a reminder of early 20th-century infrastructure in the Karoo. Origin: The bridge was erected around 1903 on the instruction of the Cape Government. Builder: It was manufactured in England by The Thames Ironworks and Shipbuilding Company. Purpose: It was built specifically as a pedestrian bridge over the Noodsloot River to allow residents to cross safely when the river was in flood.
